19th CENTURY CHRISTMAS
Join us on December 3rd, from Noon - 5p, to celebrate the holidays by making new family memories during our 19th Century Christmas event, a popular annual tradition held at Butterworth Center and Deere-Wiman House in Moline, IL.
The festivities will begin at Noon with Santa greeting children at the Butterworth Education Center at the corner of 12th Avenue and 7th Street. Santa will be handing out treats and age-appropriate books to the first 400 young visitors. Remember to bring your camera to capture special Santa moments! Videos, Children’s crafts and activities - sponsored by WQPT Quad Cities Public Television, and a historical exhibit of the Deere-Wiman swimming pool will also be featured at the Education Center.
As a special addition this holiday season, we will be testing elements of our self-guided tour program of Butterworth Center during this event. While the entire tour won’t be available until next summer, handheld tablets will be placed throughout the rooms, providing visitors with an interactive experience with the home and it’s objects, as well as learning about the house, its occupants, and so much more. Be sure to keep a lookout for the special feature in each room, and stop by the entryway table to give us your much appreciated feedback. We are excited to share this latest project with you!
There’s a variety of ongoing entertainment throughout the afternoon to enjoy, including The Moline High School Chamber Orchestra, Rock Island High School Chamber Singers, harpist Veronica Henderson, and Keynote Vocals Studio performing at Butterworth Center - 1105 8th Street. Free punch and cookies will be provided.
Deere-Wiman House, located at 817 11th Avenue will host Slide Trombone Quartet, pianist Will Gerhardt, flute duets with Nicole Romana and Sarah Lisak, Keynote Vocals Studio, and pianists Eric Newton and Eric Moon. Charles Wiman’s 1933 Lionel Train Set will be on display, and self-guided tours continue until five o’clock.
