Austin Smith will read from his new poetry collection, Flyover Country, an investigation of  the violence we do to the land, to animals, to refugees, to the citizens of distant countries, and to one another. Smith holds up to the reader the beauty and cruelty of rural life, drawing from memories of his childhood on a family dairy farm in Illinois. His poetry, stories, and essays have been published in The New Yorker, Poetry Magazine, Harper’s, and War No More: Three Centuries of American Antiwar and Peace Writing. He currently teaches at Stanford University and lives in Oakland, CA. Free will offering; no registration required.
