LATINOS IN ILLINOIS AND THE USA: MUSIC, CULTURAL HISTORY AND COMMUNICATION

The far-reaching influence of music on our daily lives is highly evident as shared by Chicago-based journalist Catalina Maria Johnson, PhD., and host/producer of her own radio show, Beat Latino.

Dr. Johnson will share songs chronicling the hardships of immigrants over the last century, up to the present day. Her program offers an expansive review of the history of Latino music, with insight the music brings to the history, culture and important interests of Latinos here, including special focus on Mexican & Puerto Rican musicians in Illinois as Latino populations grow and influence our society and music today.

This music program also includes slides & participation, and is sure to be a fun, spirited and entertaining learning experience! Refreshments will be served following the program.
