Putnam educators will bring science to life on Friday as the museum and science center kicks off a series of family nights, allowing visitors to see exhibits after regular museum hours and enjoy free activities for all ages.

Family Fun Night begins at 5 p.m., with science demonstrations and hands-on learning activities that will continue throughout the Putnam’s Grand Lobby until 8:30. All activities share the theme of “Science aLIVE!” and focus on the living aspect of science that exists around us every day.

“Science isn’t only found in your high school biology textbook — it controls everything from the weather to supermassive black holes to the car that gets you to and from work every day,” said Octavia Houtekier-Boyd, vice president of education. “Family Fun Night is about making STEM topics fun, engaging and accessible to all families in our community.”

Friday’s event features a special showing of National Geographic's “Mysteries of the Unseen World 3D” movie on the GIANT Screen. This visually stunning documentary reveals the hidden universe of microscopic life, too small to perceive with the naked eye.

Family Fun Night activities in the Grand Lobby are free to the public. General admission is required to experience the museum and science center, and movie tickets are required to see the featured film.

Admission to the museum and science center is $9 for adults, $8 for youth (ages 3-17) and free for members. Standalone theater tickets are $9 for adults, $8 for youth or just $5 as an add-on to admission. Seniors, college students and military each save $1 on their purchase.
