When the weather gets colder in the Quad Cities, it is time to head outdoors to play in the winter wonderland. One place to have a great time in the snow is at the 28-acre Ski Snowstar Winter Sports Park. With 14 trails, 4 chair lifts, a rope tow, and a magic carpet, there are no lift lines in which to wait. Don't care to ski or board? The all-thrill/no-skill tubing hill is a perfect choice. Their ever-expanding snowmaking system is the key in maintaining great conditions throughout the season.
Snow tubing at Snowstar is a great family or group activity. The tube hill is twice as wide now with more chutes! Adults and kids can slide down one of the groomed chutes on a giant inner-tube and then a specially designed "Magic Carpet" tow takes a person and the inner-tube back to the top. They prefer tubers be four years or older.
For the beginner, anyone nine years or older can be taught to ski and snowboard. Even kids 4-8 years old can have fun while learning to ski safely in Snowstar's Coal Creek Ski School. Snowstar has added a new Magic Carpet tow, that replaces the traditional rope tow, to its teaching area so it is the perfect place to learn to ski. For advanced skiers, the staff will develop a lesson designed to meet each individuals needs. The popular Learn to Ski/Board program has been expanded to every night.
Skis and snowboards can all be rented, with full-day or partial-day prices available. Snowstar is open seven days a week and group rates are available with two weeks advanced registration. Purchase the "Grab a Friend" Season Pass and that pass will entitle the holder to discounts at other ski resorts in the Midwest.
Ski Snowstar has revamped their patio, and expanded it with a new deck overlooking the slopes. It also has a geo-thermal floor to prevent ice/snow buildup.
