Chocolate and Wine Lovers Rejoice

Chocolate and wine lovers are sure to enjoy this three day adventure filled with wonderfully decadent chocolates, a nice glass (or two) of wine, and live music during this weekend trip to the Quad Cities.

Day One: Thursday

Arrive in the Quad Cities and head to Lavender Crest Winery for a leisurely afternoon of wine tasting, a nice lunch and if you like, a wine tour for just $5 per person.

After your wine tasting, travel to your hotel, check-in, and then prepare for a delicious dinner at Le Figaro. Le Figaro Restaurant is the home of the Quad Cities award winning Chef Rachid Bouchareb. For more than 22 years, this restaurant has been serving some of the city's best cuisine. Signature dishes include Escargots, Bastilla, Chateaubriand, Dover Sole, Duck a l'Orange, Frog legs, Rack of Lamb, and a delicious Tappas menu. The Creme Brule, Meringues Glaces are standouts on the dessert menu. The restaurant also features and extensive Wine List with over 70 Wines and Champagnes. Reservations recommended. After dinner, enjoy some of the nightlife in The District in downtown Rock Island. You can visit a variety of pubs, bars, nightclubs, and RIBCO a live music venue.

Day Two: Friday

Enjoy breakfast and then head off to the historic riverfront town of LeClaire, Iowa. Located just a 15 to 20-minute drive East of the Quad Cities, you will enjoy a leisurely morning of shopping at unique gift shops, antique stores, and home decor shops. Be sure to make a stop at Grasshoppers and check out their wine cellar located in the lower level of this historic house. There is also a wonderful coffee shop here, and lots and lots of shopping.

After a morning of shopping, it is time to head to the historic Village of East Davenport. Not only will you find more shopping at these quaint village shops, but the world-famous chocolate and handcrafted candies made by Lagomarcino's. This family-owned business celebrated its 100th Anniversary in 2008. Lagomarcino's is known around the world for its wonderful candy, hot fudge sundaes, and homemade ice cream. Pull up a seat and enjoy lunch at Lagomarcino's! Be sure to save room for dessert and for the wonderful chocolates and candy too. The original soda fountain and candy shop is still open in downtown Moline, Illinois just across the river. Also in the Village, stop by Camp McClellan Cellars!

Now it is time for evening activities. Get ready for a night out on the town! If you like live music, then be sure to check out the Redstone Room in downtown Davenport, Iowa. It is located on the second-floor of the River Music Experience. The Redstone Room at the River Music Experience is a state-of-the-art nonprofit venue showcasing the best in national, regional, and local music. Day Three: Saturday

Before your visit, be sure to check our calendar of events to see what festivals or special events might be taking place during your chocolate and wine adventure. Saturdays are a great day to enjoy the many festivals that take place throughout the year in the Quad Cities.

Make an appointment to visit Chocolate Manor. This wonderful shop provides one-hour tours of their artisan, handcrafted chocolate shop. Up to 30 people at a time can enter the kitchen where they can experience hand dipping of seasonal confectionaries and watch chocolates made. In the second half of the tour, you will learn all about chocolate and how chocolate is made. Sampling from their cases is included! Their English Toffee is superb and their soft butter caramel is even better. Learning is not just fun, it tastes good too!

Creekside Vineyards Winery & Inn in Coal Valley, IL, holds Terrace Wine Tastings, May-October, on weekends from 1-6pm. As the Quad Cities neighborhood winery, Creekside Vineyards hosts live music by area musicians every Saturday at 2pm. No reservations are required and guests are encouraged to pack a picnic, gather friends, and enjoy.
