Fyre Lake Golf Club

Fyre Lake Golf Club is a new Nicklaus Design golf course, and the 18-hole, 6,600-yard, par 70 layout course is woven over majestic elevation changes on a glorious lakefront setting and features a stunning island hole and tee. Fyre Lake operates as a semi-private golf club, open to the public on a per play greens fee. The new course is located 20 minutes outside of the metro Quad Cities.

Ferris Wheel at Modern Woodmen Park

Modern Woodmen Park adds a new Ferris Wheel standing 112-feet outside of the left field wall of the ballpark, along with a carousel, 30' Moser Spring Ride, and other new games and attractions. Last season a dual zip line, rock climbing wall, and new bounce houses were unveiled at the home of the Quad Cities River Bandits. In a nationwide vote, Modern Woodmen Park was voted the "Best Minor League Ballpark" in the 2013 USA Today 10Best Readers' Choice Travel Awards.

Mississippi Valley Blues Society Award

The Mississippi Valley Blues Society was honored for their annual festival with a Keeping the Blues Alive Award from the International Blues Foundation of Memphis, Tenn. The coveted award is the equivalent of lifetime achievement recognition. The Mississippi Valley Blues Festival has become one of the longest-running, most prestigious blues festivals in the world. It is held in July on the banks of the Mississippi River.

CNN Hero of the Year

East Moline-native Chad Pregracke was named the 2013 CNN Hero of the Year. He and his non-profit Living Lands and Waters have dedicated their life's work to cleaning up the Mississippi River and other American waterways. Since 1998, about 70,000 volunteers have helped Pregracke collect 7 million pounds of trash. Chad is only the second person named from the U.S.

Children's Garden

The new Children's Garden at the Quad City Botanical Center creates a whimsical interpretation of nature when it opens in May 2014. The garden includes an entry plaza and a child-size version of the Mississippi River with a meandering shallow stream for children to play in the water.

The Family Museum in Bettendorf, Iowa, invites guests to meet Professor Gilbert at his ThinkShop, a new permanent exhibit! Families and children use real tools to build one-of-a-kind inventions in this highly-interactive, hands-on space. Through the use of real building materials and recycled components, kids can bring ideas to life.

Lost Grove Lake

The new Lost Grove Lake is nearly three-miles long covering almost 400 acres, and it sits among 1,700 acres of wildlife management property, six miles north of Davenport, Iowa, on Utica Ridge Road. This primitive area includes grassland habitat for bird-watching and public hunting. The slow-speed, no-wake lake is stocked with bluegill, largemouth bass, muskie, channel catfish, walleye, Redear sunfish, and crappie. Lost Grove Lake has three ADA-compliant fishing trails accessible by wheelchair. There are boat ramps, and canoe/kayak accesses along the shore fishing accesses.

Grace Marine

Grace Marine now offers pontoon boat and jet ski rentals for two hours or up to all day during boating season on the Mississippi River. After a training session, you can pilot the pontoon boat on your own, or with advanced notice Grace Marine will provide an experienced captain so you can just sit back and relax.

"The Landing" Transient Boat Dock

"The Landing" includes 23 slips allowing residents, visitors, and transient boaters to reconnect to the Mississippi River and land-based features. The dock provides transient boaters access to the park amenities at Schwiebert Riverfront Park as well as downtown stores, shops, restaurants, and galleries in Rock Island's Arts and Entertainment District.

Riverfront e-Tour

River Action's new e-Tour brings new technology to the riverfront. QR Codes and web addresses on riverfront signs link trail users to information on RiverWay art, historical significance of river landmarks, wildlife and other facts about the Mississippi River and riverfront. The e-Tour is free and both phone and tablet-friendly.

Iowa 80 Truckstop Anniversary

The Iowa 80 Truckstop turns 50 in 2014. The "world's largest truckstop" has grown to include a 300-seat restaurant; gift store, the Super Truck Showroom, a dentist, a barber shop, a chiropractor, a Dogomat pet wash, a workout room, laundry facilities, a 60-seat movie theatre, a trucker's TV lounge, a Verizon store kiosk, 24 private showers, a Food Court with 6 fast food restaurants, a convenience store, a custom embroidery and vinyl shop, 10 gas islands, 16 diesel lanes, a fuel center, a 7-bay truck service center, and the Iowa 80 Trucking Museum. They serve over 2 million cups of coffee per year!
