Colonel Davenport, the first postmaster and namesake of Davenport, IA, designed this beautiful historic home on the banks of the Mississippi River. The Colonel Davenport House, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is a circa 1833 structure and was considered a mansion of its time.  On your guided tour, see artifacts representative of the early to mid-1800s which reflect the lifestyle of the Davenport family such as furniture, draperies, dishes, floor coverings, decorations and ornamentations.  

Learn about the lives of these early settlers and their prosperous life on the river.  The house is open for tours from May to October, Wednesday to Saturday from 12-4 p.m. Admission: $6 adults; $4 seniors; Children 12 and under and active military are free.  The house and grounds are staffed and maintained by the all-volunteer, non-profit Colonel Davenport Historical Foundation.

Directions: Use Davenport Drive from Rodman Ave. to get to the house, located on the North side of the Island. All visitors must use the Moline, Illinois gate to access Arsenal Island. A U.S. photo ID is needed for persons 16 years and older. See map at www.davenporthouse.org
