Spring Blooms With Fun In The QC

It’s always heartwarming to see the grass turn green and the daffodils and tulips come up after the winter months. Everyone looks forward to ditching the winter coat and gloves for a lighter spring jacket. As everything turns green, the Quad Cities will certainly look green on St. Patrick’s Day Weekend. For over 30 years, the St. Patrick’s Society has organized the only bi-state St. Patrick’s Parade in the country. After the parade, the crowds head to their favorite party place for great food and music.

To enjoy the warming temperatures, head out for a hike or bird watching at one of our beautiful parks like Illiniwek Forest Preserve, Black Hawk State Historic Site, or Nahant Marsh. Take the kids to play on the fun playgrounds at Empire Park and Schwiebert Riverfront Park to burn off some winter energy. Our high-quality mountain bike trails reopen for high-speed fun. Area rivers and lakes also reopen later in the spring for boating, fishing, canoeing, and kayaking. Ride on the Celebration Belle riverboat to watch for the migrating pelicans.

Spring also heralds the return of several of our seasonal attractions like Niabi Zoo, Dan Nagle Walnut Grove Pioneer Village, Quad City Botanical Center’s outdoor gardens, the Freight House Farmer’s Market…and, of course, baseball. Modern Woodmen Park was voted one of the best minor league ballparks in the country. With its unrivaled views of the Mississippi River, amusement park-like rides, and fun promotions, Quad Cities River Bandits games are fun for the whole family.
