The Performing Arts Series at First Presbyterian Church in Davenport presents organist Alex Gilson in recital on Friday, February 21st at 7:30PM. Gilson has served as Principal Organist and Assistant Director of Music at First Pres since September 2019, and was hired following a nine-month international search. The concert features works by Romantic-era French composers, the famous Bach Passacaglia, and contemporary showpiece "To Call My True Love To My Dance" by Lebanese-French organist Naji Hakim, played on the church’s magnificent 61-rank Casavant pipe organ.

Alex is a recent graduate from the Eastman School of Music with a Master of Music degree in Organ Performance and Literature. He graduated from the University of North Texas in 2016 with a Bachelor’s degree in both Organ Performance and Jazz Studies (Piano Concentration). While at UNT he served as Organ Scholar at the Episcopal Church of the Incarnation in Dallas. In October 2018 Alex won first prize at the French Organ Seminar Young Artist Competition in New York, and traveled to Europe to play historic organs in London, Paris, and Strasbourg. Alex advocates for the organ and its deserved place in the modern world of concertizing and showcasing its theological implications and purposes.

Tickets are $15/adults and $10/students, and are available at the door or in advance by calling the church office – (563)326-1691. First Presbyterian Church is located at 1702 Iowa Street.
